Stupid Security Tool virus!! Help!

[CN Spots]

Have any of you come across this varmit yet? It's taken over this computer and I don't trust any of the websites that claim to be able to remove it. Can y'all help?

Had it or something similiar a few weeks ago. I ran the built in defrag and disc cleaner. I also ran the free software for CCleaner and Spybot. Took a while because the computer was running slow, but it cleaned it out.

IMHO, Microsoft One Care scan is always the front line defense for these buggers. Do the quick scan, then run malwarebytes and others afterwards.

Be sure to save it on your desktop for future use.

Security Tool is the name of the virus. Nasty bugger. The Admiral took care of it while I was out replacing a theromostat on my truck.

I asked her what she downloaded to remove it but she couldn't remember.

I suspect that's how it got here in the first place.

I've also found that Microsoft Security Essentials can do a good job. On some of the nastier and smarter viruses, you may need to go back to either a previously known good configuration or run the scan in safe mode.
