Re: Subject: Fw: Gas Prices High??!!

JasonJ, I agree that people are demanding way too much gas for no reason other than image. Most trucks and SUVs are just used for commuting. They take up more space than cars and cause more pollution, more road wear, more tire consumtion. They are more likely to be involved in a crash involving serious injury or death. They all look like soccer mom minivans to me, I just don't see the cool or tough in a big 4x4 on the interstate.

BTW I have a truck myself, only use it to tug the boat around a couple of miles or haul something that otherwise wouldn't fit in my car. I put gas and stabilizer in it about 6 times a year. I change the oil once a year.

I buy American whenever I can except for cars. American cars are junk.

Jason, must be something wrong with the 4.0. cause I drive one ever day and get around 18.7 ever day. Day in and day out.
Mine is in a xj, so that may make a difference also.
That is stop and go mileage also. Don't know what it would get out on the road.

Won't comment on anyone that don't buy American.
I will be nice on that one.

Neumans NP. As I stated earlier.
Gennerally I'm not the one for forwarded activisim. However, after reading this, this may have some merit. Take this as you would any activist action. I do not support or condone the action but since I do not support the major oil companies now, I'm already doing this.

I place this here more for your edification and feedback...........................................................................................
I have an exxon/mobile credit card but I generally pay cash for gas at where ever it is cheaper. I know the real push behind the oil prices is OPEC. However there has been instences of price gauging, and a lot of the price behind a gallon of gas is taxes.

And since i'm getting ready to sign the papers for a

JasonJ,

Its ridiculous to see a woman driving along in a fullsize Suburban with two kids in it.
At the time you saw that woman in the Suburban with 2 kids, are you sure her other 6 kids were not in school?

You can't make a judgement based on an observation like that.

Its just plain greed, Plain and simple, There is just no way to control it right now.

Look at diesel prices, It costs near nothing to refine diesel yet it costs more than gas in some places. My brother-in-law drives truck, durring that last time the fuel prices went to $2.00 a gal. he just about went broke. I told him if he wanted to do something about it that he needed to start a truck shut down for a week. Can you imagine what that would do to the US. The whole country would shut down in about three days!

If the do gooders would let us drill we would have all the oil we want, also if we didnt send all the oil in Alaska to Japan we would be ok too.

I say, "THIS IS AMERICA, IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT"!

All I can say is that it seems most of you are getting away pretty cheap as compared to new york as far as gas prices in our marinas.I made one trip up the hudson from port jefferson n.y. last summer and the cost for my sea ray 30 with two
chevy 350's was $580 total for the trip both ways.
The price of gas ranged from 1.90 to 2.19 gal.

Two months later at our local marina the gas went to 2.31 gal. If this keeps up I may go back to a sailboat with diesel, I had a 43 foot sail and a 58 h.p. westerbeke diesel which took me on a trip to florida about 1200 miles for $300 back in 1996, We made the entire trip motoring, I have to say that going fast is great but when you are retired on a fixed income its tough paying these gas prices.I dont know what the answer is but if there was a petition to sign against rising prices count me in.Maybe part of the solution would be if the boat builders start to lose sales they could put pressure on the powers that be.Also boat u.s. may be able to make some noise in washington and get us a break. We are also getting the business by paying road taxes on the marina gas, seems to me that would be a way to get some small break if we could stop that balony.

Bill

Re: Subject: Fw: Gas Prices High??!!

Kenny, you make a solid point on assumption, but I also see at least ten homes a day doing my job as an exterminator. As such, I see what people drive, how many children, all of it. 8 times out of ten there is an excessive vehicle in the driveway for no other reason than image. Of course I respect the desire for a family that works hard to have the nicest things they can afford, and I don't want to begrudge them that, but I just think there has to be better reasons to buy these behemoths. I see literally hundreds of households where furniture could use an update, maybe the home could use some major repair, but the priority is to own a $35,000 needless SUV rather than spending the money on more important things. What is even more odd is the more money my customers have, the more logical they have spent that money. I rarely see a Suburban in front of a $700,000 house here, it is usually a nice sedan or a smaller suv. I see the gas hogs driven more by those who can barely afford it. It is a bizarre mindset, and maybe it is just this area (although most of the population here is from all over the country and have summer or winter homes here). Thats one thing about my job, only middle class and above can afford the service, so I get to see how they live. I will stand by my belief that an average family does not need the behemoths people are buying, but that is just my belief. A minivan is a far superior family vehicle, but it isn't "cool" any more.

Kenny and Jason you both make great points I tend to lean more towards Jasons veiw point. Yes I plan on purchasing a
c441490a.jpg
But I am doing that for a reason I plan on purchasing a travel trailer. GVWR of 7000#'s next year. So I need a Tow vehicle.

What gets me is the big SUV's with no trailer hitch (so you know they are not trailering) being driven around day after day. But hey if you can pay for the gas more power to you. Personnally, I would sooner by a Minivan, a midsize SUV, or a nice car depending on what I need the second vehicle for. But that's IMHO.

I drive a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. I can't and won't give it up. It only has 18,000 miles on it. So I conserve by not driving it too much.

In case of a storm, its imperative that we have something dependable, high profile with great towing capacity, and something big enough for our stuff. Gas mileage doesn't matter to me. I also will not trade comfort and safety for a lil box of a car for the mere cost of a few hundred dollars per year.

Jason,

I understand where you are comming from, but in the U.S., there is the matter of choice, and no one needs anyone to tell them what to do or what to drive.

If you like those little econo-boxes, then fine, drive one, but don't dictate what others should do.

And you should be the last person to bring this up if you drive a F-150 and a Jeep!

Thats hipocritical if you ask me!!

Everyone has their own reasons for driving whatever vehicle they choose, and no one should criticize them for their decisions.

It used to be a "free country", but whinning librals have made a point to see that it isn't free anymore, and the last thing the people of this country need, is another libral law outlawing SUV's!!

And by the way, the U.S.D.O.T. regulation on bumper highths, which is the deception the librals are using for their cause, is that all vehicles, cars, light trucks, and SUV's, have bumpers between 34" and 36" from the ground.

My SUV's bumper is exactly 36" off the ground, within the DOT's specification!

My lady friend's Toyota Camary's bumper is only 18" off the ground, that's 16" below the minimum allowable by DOT's specification!!!!!

So tell me why the libral's are proposing a law that requires that SUV's and trucks bumpers be lowered, when in fact the SUV's and trucks bumpers already meet the DOT standard and most cars do not!

Maybe if the auto manufacturers would follow the written law, maybe there wouldn't be a problem in the first place!!!

And if you like mini-vans, then fine, drive one, but I would never drive a mini-van, and I will never trade my SUV for a mini-van... EVER !!!

Interesting , I thought it might humour you all to here about fuel hear in the UK. We pay £3.50 Sterling a gallon on average, about $6.50 USD for unleaded.
Dont let George B spend to much time talking to Tony B, or you really will be in trouble.

Re: Subject: Fw: Gas Prices High??!!

Kenny, why are you getting so testy? I am not telling anyone to do anything, I am expressing a viewpoint. Seeing as I sacrified eleven years of my life in military service to help ensure our great country has the freedom it deserves, I would be the last one to dictate anyone should do anything. Yes, if I had a family, I would drive a minivan. They are more practical. But other than a 12 year old daughter that lives with her mother, I have no family. You are right, I drive a truck, but before that I had a Suzuki, and before that, a Subaru, and so on. Because I have come to the point in my life where I need a vehicle that can tow and haul heavy items, I got rid of my highly economical but otherwise useless suzuki and got a Ford. I cannot help what the better half drives, she got the Jeep before we met and she would gladly get a Subaru now, but the money is not there. She bought the Jeep because her friends had one, and she admits it. You have missed the point to my posts, which is if we are going to choose to drive unpractical gas sucking vehicles, then we have to own that and accept the fact that we get to spend a lot of money on gas. We can't cry if gas prices goes up when we are consuming it at alarming rates. If gas prices go to $5.00 a gallon like the rest of the world, how many of those large SUVs will you still see on the road? I personally am not a fan of OPEC and do not like the fact that they can control my life with irrational oil price hikes, but thats what I get for driving a truck...

Gas just hit 84.5 cents / liter for regular, thats $2.50/US gallon where I live.
I don't quite understand it, because none of our oil comes from the middle east...
