submerged 7.5 1968 ted williams....help!....

i went to put my 12 ft. gamefisher in the lake and when i went to back it up into the water it hit shallow bottom and somehow ripped the outboard of the boat and it fell on its side, not all the way in the water, it was laying on its side. i tried to start it and no luck. i took the spark plug out and gray gunk came out when i tried to pull start it. gunk came out of the exhaust also. i have no idea what to do. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

One thing that you may can do is flush the cylinders with fuel and outboard oil mix or just gas with no oil mixed but I would play it safe and add outboard oil. This may help out some, I don't know for sure if it would clear all of the water and gunk out. You could also dump some fuel oil mixed down the carb throught, with the motor facing spark plug holes down. I don't see where gas and oil mix would hurt anything, if anything it should help it out. Of coarse the power head should be the only thing you should be concerned with.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I hope this helps. Hopefully some of these other guys will stop buy this thread. I don't know if a decarbing would be recommended or not.

i got her going again! just took the plugs out sprayed the holes and let her run for a while. it runs like it did before it fell in. thanks.

What did you spray the holes with? Glad you got it going again.

wd-40. i dont know if that helped or not. i think by just leaving the plugs out and letting them dry did the trick.

Steve, You are on the correct track. It is recommended that the motor be run for 45 minutes to dry it out completely.

Now that you have it running, make sure it's securely fastened to the transom. A safety chain is a good idea, since transom clamps can vibrate loose. If your outboard has bolt holes on the transom clamp bracket, you might consider bolting it to the transom with stainless steel bolts. I did that to my Johnson 6hp, and I don't worry about it any more.

While lifting out our first outboard it slipped it's noose and went overboard in 30 feet of clear ocean. How should we clean this up and is there anything to replace right away? signed, melanie...rowing again
