Hey all
Getting this 89 cobra 3.0L out. was running it on the muffs, trying to get the timing ar carb set right. i noticed there was like a ting ting sound, kinda intermittently, i think its the starter gear touching the flywheel, the starter was a bit frozen with i fist pulled it out a few weeks ago, but it freed itself up. then after a few minutes of playing with it i shifted into forward and suddenly there was like a whirrrrrrrrrrr sound, like sothing rubbing. At first i was really worried there was somthing wrong witht he drive. But now im thinkging the starter gear wont disengage. WHen i restarted it it keeps doing it right off the bat now. Could it be the drive? how hard is it to check the gimbal/u-joint? the boat has been sitting for about 2 or 3 years, i changed the drive oil, no metal or oil in it, and everything seemd to be fine up untill this. Also, how can i tell if the impeller is working? do i have to have it in the water?
THanks!!
