Hi all, I presently have a 2008 21? center console boat that I purchased in March of 2009. The boat came with a Karavan Trailer. Last fall I had excessive tire wear on both front outside tires and after some prodding from me the dealer pushed Karavan to look into the matter. As it turns out both axels had the hub mounting plates welded on an angle which resulted in the tires wearing the way they did. They did full replacement of the axels and tires all around. Now this fall I bring the trailer to the shop for my yearly engine maintenance and no sooner do I get into the yard from a 40 mile dive on the highway and the boat lurches up on the right side. As it turns out the front leaf spring mount broke off due to faulty welding and possibly bad design in the bracket. After further inspection the left side is showing signs of a fracture. In addition to that the left side brackets have welds on three side where as the right side has welds on only two or a partial third. So far the only response back was that Karavan recommend that the trailer be washed after each use in salt water!!

I cannot even think of what could have happened if I was on the highway and that broke free. I normally carry a full tank of fuel which is 100 gallons as well.

Any way I am now looking for a new trailer and wondered what people thought of the Load Rite Trailers?

Paul

Re: Suggestions for a new trailer

I have a load-rite tri-axle and have for the most part been pleased with it. The trailer came as an adjustable but my 10,000 cruiser moved the adjustments everytime I moved the boat. The trailer has a 14,000 pound weight rating but the jam-bolts can not hold that amount of weight. I adjusted the trailer to were I wanted it and then welded it in place. For the last 6-years it's been fine. The trailer is a very strong buy using 8 inch by 2 inch box side beams and 2 by 4 inch box runners. I like loadmaster better but the same trailer would run about one third more so doing a little side work isn't bad.

My #1 pick for a high quality trailer would be Myco... some of the worlds most expensive boats sit on Myco's. And a lot of the guys with high end boats travel a lot for poker runs and such, and they seem to hold up great.

I went with EZ loader
http://www.ezloader.com/

Seems to be a good trailer All Aluminum and bunks (or rollers)
Has torsion axles ( I was told springs are bad to rust )
Your choice of brakes
Oil bath Hub Bearings (you might want to do some research I was told that they were a better system than the buddy bearings)
Tire warranty
LED lights
I paid 3800.00 for a 7900 lb

Re: Suggestions for a new trailer

:confused::confused:The truth is simple. I am not a salesman of any kind but the only to trailer brands that I would recomend are EASY LOADER or SHORELANDER. I found this out through personal experience. ;););) LDJ I would like to suggest to always get a GALVANIZED trailer no matter what type of water you boat in, they last longer and look better over time.
