Re: Suggestions/Ideas wanted.

I'm not married to this set up.. hell, i'm not married at all LOL.
I owned a '84, 16' cuddy with the 85hp. 7 years and i was the 2nd owner. Ran great and I did all the maintenance. For me, a decent wrench turner it was pretty easy and have to say, cheap.
Now, I'm interested in the 3.0 litre with an alpha outdrive. I feel i could maintain that as well.

If someone could give me ideas on a different set up, small cuddy with an outboard, I'm listening!

As you can see i've been here for a bit and without a doubt it's a Fantastic Forum! Expert help.

Just want to say thank you all for the responses... I'm a do it yourself guy, pretty much anyway, so i don't want to get into something that I'm uncomfortable trying to maintain.

TY, Dave

How about something like this? Don't know anything about it, but it's got a GM 305 (5.0L) with an Alpha. Looks decent, you could probably get it for around $5K (don't know your budget). There's quite a few options available for a 90's 20-21' cuddy. Not a ton of OB options unless you want a fishing-style boat, but there are some out there. I wouldn't shy away from an I/O setup as long as it's a Merc or Volvo.

Well, unless there's some nostalgic reason for it, it would probably be the poster child for the most unrecommended vessel on this site...the Force engine combo...

...Bayliners have the worst rep of any builder I can think of for over 2 decades...

If someone could give me ideas on a different set up, small cuddy with an outboard, I'm listening!
Sorry - wasn't even trying to Bayliner-bash, really. It was the Force outboard that got me. If you'd been looking at a Bayliner in good shape, I probably woulda' let it go. If you were looking at a nice boat with a Force outboard that was in good shape, I would probably let it go. But you were initiating an active search for both of 'em together! :D

Look for a walk-around cuddy. Not sure where you are, but if you're near a coast (even the great lakes) they'd be more popular. More of them will be outboard, but you'll see some I/O's too.

Oh man no worries. I know both have a terrible rep but it was a good fit for me for a number of years, so it's something I could go back to. I'm in upstate NY and I like a small cuddy because i stay on the boat up in Lake George. Been doing it for years and have stayed on the boat for many weekends and more..... Island camping even more than that.

My budget is around 5k and interested in looking so like I said, I'm not married to this set up.

Thx again, any help is much appreciated and I'll chime in from time to time as well.

Ever considered one of the half-camper type of Pontoons? They're kind of a neat boat for camping.

They are neat boats but I like small cuddy speed boats. looking for something 18-19 feet, preferably outboard but am looking at 3.0 mercruisers too.
