Re: Sun Tracker

i started to get the 22 footer they had them side by side and i learned the 20 footer is really 21 ft 11 inchs and the 22 footer is realy 22 foot 2 inchs saved about 5 grand by going with the 20

Geez, on my Tahoe, the difference between 18' and 24' was only $1,000.

I think the aluminum deck is still an option, but the dealers I have talked to say they only order the aluminum for inventory. Unless someone really wants wood they get metal. I like my aluminum deck.

Oh, I see. Didn't know that Glenn. It is nice knowing the deck won't ever rot.

Mercury four strokes are hard to come by right now. For some reason the motors are leaving the factory at a snails pace. There are alot of dealers swapping new motors around to try to meet the demand. I believe the upturn in new boat sales caught them unprepared. Good luck, hope you get yours soon.

For whatever reason Merc didn't gear up production this year and got caught by the increased demand. I can sort of understand the move. In their position the choice was gamble on increased demand by spending money or keep things the way they are.

There is a downside to an aluminum deck...noise reduction. Wood will give a much more quiet ride.

When we ordered our 22' fishing barge this past April I don't think aluminum decking was an option. The good thing is that the 7-ply marine plywood has a limited lifetime warranty. Luckily it seems i got my order before the merc shortage. Got the boat in the middle of May. I do have to say that the dealership in rochester was awesome and their customer service was outstanding.

Mercury screwed the pooch on this one. If I am not mistaken, most boats leave the factory with controls on them. Mercury knows how many controls they sell and to whom. While they took a "gamble" and don't want to be stuck with spare inventory, they way under estimated demand or are not being honest about manufacturing problems. In the meantime they have left dealers and clients hanging in the lurch.

the main increase in cash was the motor size it did not make any sence to me but on my 20 ft witch is 21 ft 11 in the max motor size is 75 h.p the 22 ft that is really 22 ft 3 in is 90 h.p so difference in boat price and motor price was about 5 grand, i would have loved a 90 horse on mine but iam happy with the 60 bigfoot .

Yeah, I went through that as well.
Moving up from a 50 to a 115 was an extra $2,500.
So I added 6 feet, and 65 HP for $3,500.

Yeah i paid about 4 or 5k for an extra two or three feet too. But upgraded motor to a 115, got performance tubes, hydraulic steering, and a bunch of interior mods.

frankly, I think the sweet spot in the market right now are 20 footers with 50 and 60 HP. You can buy new ones all day long for under 20K....even get nice ones for 16 to 18k. Those things will never be worth less than 9k used even after 10 or 12 years if you take care of them. if you think about it, that is really a great value.

Re: Sun Tracker

Might depend on the boat.

Yeah, maybe so. On barges there's so much under the deck for the water to splash around on I don't think the composition of the deck itself matters.

Re: Sun Tracker

Yeap, I own a 1991, 20 foot Pontoon Boat with a 1983, 70 Horse Johnson outboard that does AWESOME!!!! it isn't new but whoever had it before me too really good care of here, the graphics, interior, carpet, upholstery is in outstanding shape on her, even the mooring, snap in cover that I had to get repaired a couple of times, but it is worth it and I am very happy with her. I do fantisize about my upgraded pontoon boat, when I get the money or win the lottery, LOL, but I want a 20-22 foot pontoon bota with lifting strakes, 115 Horse power Johnson/Evinrude/Yamaha, maybe Merc, three toons under here, changing room, etc but that will be along time for me maybe never but at least I got my current toon that I and my family absolutely love so I am basically stuck with my current toon which is not bad at all. Like everybody said here, if you take care of your pontoon boat it will last a very long time and my toon is proof of that. Yeap here is my dream Tri-toon boat when I hit the lottery or come into money, LOL. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFlf7CnhghI and another one, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0DaaU6vQuw&feature=related
