On Saturday I made the mistake of going tanning. If you didn't read my original post about it Click here. I am still deep red/purple and have a good amount of blisters (2nd degree burn). I thought the pain would be less by now even after following all your suggestions.

I called the tanning place and asked them what I did last time. The girl said, "Yeah, you went Ruva for 30 minutes."   I specifically told them Ruva for 15 minutes!!! They doubled the time I asked for. The forms I filled out show I am medium skin without a base tan at the moment. I am not the type who sues but think this is an interesting topic to ask what would you all do?

I'd go to the doctor... and worry about the rest later

First, aide those burns. Use prep-H to stop the pain, potential itching and scarring. Trust me it works.

Secondly, regardless of telling them 15 minutes, I think you would be partially responsible for knowing the difference between 15 and 30. Just my 2 cents. Kinda like drinking too much in a bar. The patron does share the responsibility of knowing when too much of a good thing can hurt.

I got 2nd and 3rd degree sunburns once. Two days in a row in the pool without sunscreen. There wasn't much I could do...just stand there and not move for a week. It hurt to sit, hurt to lay down, hurt to turn my head, GOD THAT SUCKED! I would go to the doctor...

I think it was a $6 an hour employees screwup and not Malicious Intent. If it were me I would talk with the salon owner and let them try to make it up to you. They are also proabably licensed with the state board of cosmotology, perhaps you could file a complaint with them also. Beyond that be glad it wasn't worse and let this one slide.

On the other hand perhaps the owner will realize you were only charged for 15 minutes and want some additional money. Wouldnt that be something if he came after you!!

Get burned on the backs of my hands and forearms in the Spring, Admin5.

I use Bactine pump spray to ease the pain without touching.

Yeah, that would be pretty funny. Just stand out front for an hour talking to people that go in. :D I went to a boat show about a month ago and there were a group of 5 people with t-shirts on saying a certain brand of boats are crap. I can't remember what brand it was, but they were standing right next to their display and the people working there looked pretty worried...

I am sure someone has mentioned it already, but on top of all the Aloe and tea baths dont forget to pop a few asprin.you wont believe how it helps.Make sure you apply aloe everywhere you can reach several times a day.You can put it over any creams you may be using and it will make them absorb into your skin where you need it.Charlie

I gotta go with health first, decide what to do next after. That was a big does in 30 minutes. See a Doctor and make sure no permanent damage was done. Getting close to spring A5...don't need a maladies at this point.

Neglegence on the Salons' part? I dunno. Be for a judge to decide. But, I think I would let the Salon know what happened. (I'm not the sue crazy type either) :)

I wound't sue either, it wound't be worth it. You'd only get a few grand and it would be very time consuming.

I got burned real bad last summer, I don't think any of the stuff works, just man it out. yours does sound worse, you may want to think about having it checked out, unless it skin cancer or something, there isn't much a doctor could do.

Malt vinegar applied twice a day from a rag kept in a small bottle full of the vinegar. Applied twice a day it will calm the pain and settle the blisters in a couple of days. You'll be amazed how the smell stops after a few minutes.
Have used this for years and it's worked on the kids also. I keep a bottle on the boat in case somebody gets burnt.
Ross

Re: Sunburn update - what would you do?

I know some have mentioned aloe. When I burn (and I do every year), I use a product called After Sun with aloe & spearmint. Only I put it in the refrigerator to let it get really cold. Only takes a couple of applications and air-dries, no stain, etc.
I heard that Preparation H works on sunburn as well. Try refrigerating it before using it too. Let us know what ends up working the best, and G-O-O-D L-U-C-K!

Re: Sunburn update - what would you do?

Gotta say that I have only been to them tanning beds a handful of times, but I always made sure I knew how long I was in there. I would always bring my watch and have it sitting beside me so I could keep track of the time.

.....as far as legal action, I wouldn't think it would be worth it, and really, what do you want to achieve with a lawsuit? You could put a small operation like that out of business, when it was just a mistake by one of the low paid workers that caused your problem.

Re: Sunburn update - what would you do?

Great advice! Just to clarify - I am not a sue happy person and have no intention of doing so. I am starting to do better (only woke up 10 times last night instead of 50 times a few nights back).

I am surprised that you know the difference so well between 15-30 minutes! This sounds like a stupid statement but try laying down sometime in a nice warm place, steady breeze running over you, relax and meditate. You may be surprised how quickly time passes.

Again, thanks for all the advice and I will give you all an update when the melanomas start popping up all over.

Be careful with the Aloe. If the burn has already started peeling I wouldn't put aloe on it. IT BURNS AWEFUL!! Personal experience talking. Just adding that little tid bit.
Bassy.
