Re: Super Noob, Help Im trying! WOT? rpm?

well after working out the kinks that night i got it to go 5k rpm... with the 19pitch and 4guys aboard. But if i left it at full throttle for more then 20 / 30 seconds the motor bugs momentairly because of lack of fuel or maybe lack of pressure to feed the new carb. If it was my out drive maxing then how did i pick up 1k rpm.... obviously that is not the limit of the outdrive if i retuned the motor and picked it up. I dont know the ratio, its an Alpha One Gen 2 is all i know with a 19pitch prop which came with the boat... Im not here to lie to anyone or whatever but im hearing diffrent stories from diffrent people just read the whole article and there are people stating theres revs up to 5k+ I have the merc books, it does not state my rpm for a 350, nor the original 305.

I'm not speaking of a hardline limit, I'm speaking of a technical safe operating limit. Same reason your car doesn't rev to 8000 rpms. It's not that the engine can't get there, it's that it isn't engineered to withstand those rpms. Your outdrive has a maximum operating range as specified by MERCRUISER. If you think you are smarter than the engineers, by all means run it faster. No one is giving you different stories here, so perhaps you should be very cautious of what your friends who "know a lot about engines (not boats)" are telling you.

Also, just because it bogs after 20-30 seconds isn't necessarily indicitive of fuel starvation. There are plenty of other options.

Id be more then happy to here your input on the bogging problem.

And again im not trying to be rude or say i do or do not know more then an engineer. I am a car guy, If i knew everything i wouldnt be here asking questions. I just dont see how i made more rpm out of it by fixing my problems if im limited persay, i understand there is a safe limit, i am happy with 5k and will not be trying to go above that because i am not trying to wear my motor out by spinining it to 6k, its not a 4cyc and not made to wind way up even though it is a marine motor which is made to handle a full tilt all day load.... But now im going to play with props but i want to get the boat 100% before i worry about much more speed.

And thanks haulnazz15 for your information, you have been very helpful in your past posts. also HT32BSX115 do you think im under propped?
