I have a 2003 Prestige trailer, when towing the wheels become very hot. Have cleaned master cylinder, bleed the calapers, the pads are good and the calapers are clean and free to move. The trailer seems to keep pressure in the system even when brakes not be applied. Help before I loose a wheel bearing

Re: surge brakes

I'd guess you've either got a bad-line or a failing actuator. How does it act when you use the lock-out for reverse??

Re: surge brakes

Look at the brake caliper......If it has an "R" on it as in the attached picture, most likely the caliper puck has corroded and thus won't fully retract when the brakes are released. Prestige changed over to Kodiak calipers to eliminate this problem. Since Prestige Trailers is no longer in business you should contact Heritage Trailers. http://www.heritagetrailers.com/contact.htm They have knowledge of the trailers Prestige built and should be able to help. The biggest task to convert from the Reliable calipers to the Kodiak calipers is that the caliper mounting bracket is slightly different. To remove the Reliable bracket requires the hub/rotor to be removed from the axle or the use of a cutting torch. I replaced 2 calipers before switching over to the Kodiak calipers which I purchased through Prestige. Six years later....no further problems.

You either have a drum brake master cylinder or there is some debris that is not allowing the pressure to be relieved. Do you have a backup solenoid on this? They are susceptible to getting clogged with a very samll piece of debris.
