Good Morning

I've just purchased a second hand 30 hp Suzuki 2 cyl 2 stoke probably about 1995. looks in good condition externally. It's been garaged and not winterized for probably the last 5 years.

When I tried to start it there was no fuel getting to the carb bowl because the needle value and float assemble was completely bunged up in oily muck.
I've stripped and cleaned the carb fairly thoroughly, removed and cleaned all the jets etc and put new fuel in.

The spark looks week.

I can start the engine and it runs for about 30secs to a minute if I massage the choke to keep it running, and it will rev up pretty good. But after 30 secs or so it cuts out.

I'm not sure weather to keep looking at the carb and fuel or to try and investigate the visual week sparking.

Any suggestions much appreciated

Sounds like a fuel problem. When the motor starts to cut out try sqeezing the primer bulb. If the motor picks up then chances are the fuel pump needs attention. Some sparks do look a little week but its probably still good.

Thanks for your reply.

The spark looks better now I've removed the ground kill circuit, there is a leak to earth I need to sort out.

The engine now will run on just the throttle but won't tickover. It dies if the rev drop below 2000rpm approx.

I can't figure how the carb works yet. There seems to only be a butterfly on the throttle. The main needle is fixed in place.

Is there a idle jet some where?

The fuel lines look a bit dodgy but the bulb is rock solid once pumped up so Cant detected a pin prick air leak.

Can other ideas much appreciated

Thanks again
