Suzuki 9.9 Bogging Down

My Suzuki 9.9 wasn't winterized. Typically, I use it year-round as I fish, crab, and duck hunt. Since I run it a few times each month, it doesn't really go into storage each winter. This season it sat in the cold for about 6 months unused. It starts and idles fine, but bogs down under load. I changed out the plugs and fuel, which seemed to do the trick, until I got it on the water and it started acting up again-it will only run at idle speeds. I wasn't sure what sort of damage fuel sitting in the lines might have caused, as this is most likely my problem. The fuel-filter and screen inside of the tank look clean. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Suzuki 9.9 Bogging Down

Hi, It sounds to me like the high speed jet in the carb could be slightly clogged and needs cleaning. If fuel sets in a carb for a long time it turns into shellac and gums everything up. If you are very mechanically inclined and have good vision you could possibly dis-assemble the carb following the directions from a Suzuki Shop Service Manual for your engine and give it a good cleaning and this might do the trick. I have also heard that a lot of people are using something called Sea Foam to clean a carb without having to dis-assemble it, I've seen it used but it smokes like crazy, but it seemed to do the job.
