Suzuki DF70

I own a 2006 Suzuki DF70 that has developed the following problem. I was out on the lake and on my way back from fishing when at high speed everytime I touched the power trim button the engine would cut out for a second or so. Also the warning lights would light up and the warning buzzer would beep for a second but was able to make it back to the marina. The problem seems to be getting worse in that now the engine will die right out. I am able however to start it right back up. Any pointers out there before I take it to the dealer??

My guess is that touching the trim button is causing a voltage drop that the engine doesn't like.

I would look into connections in all of the high current cables from the battery to the starter and to the PT&T unit.

yep jb's right it might also be time for a new battery . as you stated it's getting worse.

Most boats these days have a voltmeter. If yours does, when you hit the trim button watch the voltmeter. If low voltage is causing the problem the reading will drop significantly when you hit the trim button. That low voltage will prevent the engine from getting the voltage it needs to run. You might also check the reading under way. If its less than 13.5 volts the charging system is not working and the battery is not being charged which would account for the power loss when hitting the trim button.

Thanks for the input. It all makes sense. I checked the control connections and wiring and trim gauge. The trim gauge does not work at all now and has water in it. The power trim does however still work. I took the boat out this morning and did not have a problem. I have no voltage meter/gauge but did notice last night when it acted up that every time I activated the trim button it did dim the lights quite a bit, so the high voltage draw makes sense. Could the fact that the trim gauge has water in it be the root of the problem? I do however have an appointment with my Suzuki dealer for Monday.
