Suzuki DT15c - Problems with adjusting gears/finding neutral

I've just replaced the impeller for my -92 Suzuki DT15c and during the first testrun I noticed I had problems finding the neutral gear.
After that I tried adjusting it but found that the previous owner had shredded the threads in the brass nut for adjusting, it was stuck on the lower gear linkage rod. I had to heat it to be able to remove it from the rod.

Now I've installed a new brass nut and put everything back in order and are trying to adjust the gears.

Here is my problem:

I can't seem to find the neutral gear, I've kept adjusting it yesterday for over 90 minutes back and forth. With the shifter in neutral position I've been adjusting the brass nut but whatever I do the propeller is still engaged to the motor. It can be turned by hand but then the motor revolves.

Does anyone here have a solution or at least some hints that I could use?

Re: Suzuki DT15c - Problems with adjusting gears/finding neutral

After adjusting some more on the brass nut I still haven't gotten it to work.

But one thing I noticed is that however I adjust the brass nut the propeller always revolves in the reverse mode when I pull the starting cord and the shifter is in neutral mode.

Could I have broken or made something pop out of place in the gears when I wrestled to get the brass nut off from the lower gear linkage rod?
