Re: Swap aq231a for 200d?
I have an aq231a chevy with Volvo stern and rings are bad. I was wondering if I could switch it with a 200d Volvo engine and how much trouble it would be. The new engine is ready to drop in for $500. What ya think
If your willing to accept the drop in performance, and having to possibly do a little mixing and matching because the design/location of the parts and pieces have changed, then by all means.
The biggest hurtle may be a flywheel if the 200D doesn't come equipped with one. As per the VP website, it appears the 200D has a 2 piece rear main seal, where as the 231A has a 1 piece rear main seal. If the 200D comes with a flywheel, then you should be OK. If not, then you will most likely need to find one as the 2 piece, and 1 piece RMS flywheels won't interchange. If there is a difference in flywheel diameter, then the correct marine grade starter will need to be swapped in as well.
If the 200D was a saltwater job, I would be going over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure it's not rotten, and new manifolds/risers would be mandatory. Just make sure your not getting into an engine that's no different, or right behind your current engine. If you could do a compression test, check the oil pressure, and listen to the 200D, that would be the best thing.
