I told you in my last thread that I don't recommend it and I gave the reason why.
However, if you insist on doing it, only a few special tools are needed. Removing the reverse gear pak is relatively easy. However, removing the pinion is a bit more difficult and it must be removed in order to remove the forward gear. You will need a gear or bearing puller to remove the forward gear outer race (cup).
You need a dial indicator to set prop shaft end float, and a special tool to shim the pinion in the new case. If you do not shim it and it meshes properly with the forward and reverse gears, you are lucky and it will run well. If you do not shim it and it does not mesh properly you will end up with a bunch of nice, shiny, hardened steel grindings in your case and no pinion or forward gear. This can happen anywhere from minutes to hours depending on the degree of mis-mesh. And you will not be able to hear it.
Buy a Clymers manual. It gives detailed step by step instructions for rebuilding gearcases.
