I just took off a 85 Johnson 115 from my boat and put on a 1978 140. I seem to have an extra 5 pin connector coming from my controls that has no place to connect. It has a white wire with a yellow line. A green wire with a white line. a black wire with a brown line. A red wire with a white line. a blue wire with a white line. Can some one give me a some guidance?

Is the control box that came with the 140 orgininal or is it a newer one ?? Sounds like you have a newer style control box. Those are t/t wires.

The motor I took off was a 1985. The controls are for an 85. Do I need to swap controls as well? Can I use the controls for the 85 on the 1978 motor? It also has tilt and trim. I looked on the 85 Motor that I took off and those wires seem to be more then t/t. They go to a terminal board.

Re: swapped motors now have xtra connector

I just talked to a buddy who is a marine tech. He told me that the extra connector MOST LIKELY is for the guage package. He did however warn me that since the motor I took off was a VRO motor, that harness MAY also have a safety interlock for the vro. He warned me that may cause the motor not to start. Does anyone have any input or knowledge on this? I guess I will find out tomorrow morning when I give it a shot and see if it starts.
