Swapping lower units on 1997 115 hp Johnson with 1989 90hp Johnson

pretty sure you need a 1991 or older lower unit to go onto your 1989 motor

Thank you for this advise. ! Would it be different that I put the 97 (shorter) one onto my 89 (longer) one.

im almost positive its the other way around! but would need to check. its also possible you have mix and matched years going on here as the shift shafts shouldn't be the same by 1997 but again would need to look
