OK, here's the deal.
I want to change my trolling motor out from a foot control to a hand control with the 2 hotfoots(switches) in the floor like this one that you can see here.
https://www.trollingmotorparts.com/FCS-2.jpg

How is the wiring different between the 2 types?
My hand control switches from 12 to 24 on the main unit and the foot control switches from 12 to 24 on the foot control.

Do I just wire my hand control plug in where the foot control plug is now or what?
How do I wire up the hotfoots(switches)?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Switching motors

SBN

I hope you get an answer on this one, cause I want to do the same thing with mine. What are you going to use to steer it? I've been contemplating what type of steering handle I could use on mine. The one I have is a 12 Volt only, so it SHOULD be easy..
Works for me. And that is on a 12/24 65# motor.

i'm not sure how those foot swicthes work an where the leads hook into as per control..

an why two of 'em..

don't know these things so i can't help..

i once way way back when there wasn't squat for accessories.. i hooked up an old 'ford' type firewall startin' soleniod to the outside of my trollmo battery box.. an than ran a remote push button on/off switch to the two small soleniod terminals ..so i could turn the trolmo off an on by it..

mash the switch ,,close the soleniod an big battery power flowed thur..

mash switch again ... off....

Re: Switching motors

I like that idea, SBN. Where did you get yours? I think I can wire mine up to a foot switch fairly easily, since it's only 12 Volts. Or I may just look on E-bay for a regular old trolling motor that will mount on my existing floor mount.

Re: Switching motors

This is what the foot switch looks like.
https://www.trollingmotorparts.com/FCS-2.jpg

crab, they use 2 so you can fish from either side of the boat, just push one and away you go.
You don't fool with the control on the hand control, just step on one of them switches.

Plus, the one above is a constant on if you want so you can lock it down and not have to keep your foot on it all the time.

I have this set up in my one boat but I am selling it, but want to transfer it over to my other boat which is foot control.
I already have the 24V run up there, so I guess it is just a matter of wiring the different plug up to the one that is there now for the foot control.

Re: Switching motors

SBN. Do both motors have three wires to power them? (three prong plug?)

You gonna only use 24 volts (the easy way), or do you want to be able to switch back and forth between 12 and 24, and still have the hot foot switches (hard way)?

Re: Switching motors

snapper, both motors use the 3 prong plug.
I mainly use just the 24V side all the time.

I still want the foot switches so I don't have to turn the trolling motor on by hand all the time.
That's what the foot switches are for, to cut the power on and off.
