swithbox?Stator? No spark %$^#

I have a 1991 Mercury 25 hp 2 stroke that is sparking on only one coil. It has a green/white wire going to one coil and a green/yellow going to the other- in addition to a ground going to each. I thought the one with the green/white wire was bad and replaced the coil with a new one. Still no spark on that cylinder. So, I put the green/ yellow wire to it and it sparked but the other with the green/white would now not spark. I have checked all wiring and swapped plugs, but no matter what the combination, only the coil with the green/yellow wire will spark..

I took the switchbox off and found that there is no way to look inside for a short. Does this sound like a bad swithbox or is there something else, like the stator that I can check? Before you tell me to buy a repair manual, I know I need one, but it will take a week to get here and I bet someone on here can give me an idea on what to look for, right ??

I was doing the rectifier test and ran into a question. On the test flowchart, it says if you have the red multimeter lead on ground and the black lead alternating between terminal "a" and "c' and get continuity the do the next test, if you don't get continuity, do another step. My issue is I am getting a continuity reading on terminal "a" but not on terminal "c". If I assume this is a "no continuity state" and follow that path, the rectifier tests bad. If I take this as a "continuity state" and follow that path, the rectifier tests as good.

Does anyone know if you have to have teminal "a" and "c" reading coninuity on both to follow that "continuity" testing path, or would that be a "no continuity" if only one reads continuity. The manual is not clear.

I'm no expert but that looks on the face of it to be a switchbox. When your manual comes, perform the troubleshooting test for the switchbox.

Stator problems, to my knowledge, would affect both cylinders.

Coil has been replaced so clearly not implicated.
