I have searched the forums about trim tabs and hydrofoils and have come to conclusion from everyone's response that trim tabs are the way to go. I have a 78 tri-hull Imperial that needs a little help planning more efficiently because of a sorta weak 120 2.5L. My top speed with current prop is about 33mph so I figure with smart tabs, I will not loose speed like with the hydrofoil. My question is which smart tabs to get. My boat is 16ft and heavy. I see the charts they provide but the gap for my application is kinda large. The have 50-80hp and the next step up is 150hp. Should I get the 50-80?? also, they show outboards and mine is an inboard? I am sort of confused????

Re: Tabs??

Go to nauticusinc.com and browse. Call them. John will tell you everything you need to know. Smart Tabs work and are well worth the price.

Re: Tabs??

Sorry for the confussion!

Your boat is not as under powered as you may think. The problem with getting "on Plane" is that much of the available thrust is used up in climbing the hill that is created on take off (bow up situation). The tabs will keep the bow from going up and the result is that the thrust can now be used to propell the boat foward.

Use the ST1290-60.

Let us know if you need advice!
