I want to add a tach to my 75hp Chrysler outboard. Just looking for opinions on a decent brand. I bought an old one from a local marina that I was told would work, but it doesn't. I've looked at the Faria brand, but I'm not sure what would be good. Also would I be better off to by the tach in a set with water pressure/temp and so on? Ive already got a good spedo on her.

You can still pick up the originals if you look hard enough, otherwise I bought an electronic one which I still had to calibrate with my handheld tacho.

The tach used depends upon the year: If the engine is pre-1978, with a distributor, then a 12 pole tach will work. If it post 1978 with no distributor, then it needs a 20 pole tach. These tachs are becoming more difficult to find. You can also use a "Tiny Tach." on either model engine.

I think the engine is an 82. Or at least that's what I've been told here on the forum.

Here are a few pics.

Thanks for the replies by the way. I know the forum is jacked up right now.. Makes it a pain to post..

No Title

It is definately post 1978, as that is when the lower unit changed to a one piece, the only Chrysler tacho's I have seen have a setting for 1,2,3 and 4 cylinder, I have had 3 of them, but ended up with an electronic one from China which I calibrated with my hand held.
Hey you can still get the prop flare and prop cones for those old Chryslers, I still have a flare laying around here somewhere.
