Engine is a 1989 Johnson 48 SPL.

Boat has no instumentation. Would Like to add a tach. Did some searching and found this motor would be 10P.

Will use GPS for speed.

Also found a foot note (can't remember where) that said a voltage regulator or 2k resistor might be need for SPL motors to prevent rectifier damage. Anyone got any further insight on that.

Would I be better to just mount a digital (tiny tach) that uses an inductive loop around a spark plug wire?

Any issue with this type tach?

Obviously mounting the tiny tach would be simpler than cutting a hole for a dial tach.

Get the tiny tach as it will be simpler and cheaper.

I agree with boobie, have mounted the tiny tach to the hood, just remember to disconnect the wires when you pull the hood.
