tach just started fluctiating ???

my tach in my 92 javelin with a 93 fast strike 175 hp just started acting up on me.it will show idling some times .what can i check to see if there is a fix, where should the wires go to on the motor or any help would be appreciated. thanks

First, check that the battery cables are clean and tight (more than finger tight). The tach operates off the charging system and can fluctuate if the charging current has difficulty getting to the battery.

i took it to the lake last night after i checked the cables (they were tight) and it still acted up.but i did notice that the voltage gauge was not acting like it was charging. what is the best way to check this.my main reason for checking these things is that by the speedometer have lost a few mph. my last tournament i was able to run right at 69-70mph and last night all i could get was low 60's. the plugs i pulled out from the motor was ql77jc4 and the top two cylinders looked like tips were burnt down more than the other 4 plugs. what gap should be ran.i am just tring to checkeverything i can. please help. thanks
