Tach problem

Hey guys im having trouble with my tach.. when the engines idling it says its at 2500 rps than when i go full throttle it jumps past 8000.. i have a 88 spl. 4 cylinder. right now the tach is set to 2p 4c.. its wired directly from the remote (gray wire)

Check the back of the tach. There is a small calibration dial on the back that should be set to "6P". If it is already set there, GENTLY rotate the dial back and forth a few times to burnish the contacts -- theen reset to "6P".

Stands for 6 pulses. Unlike auto tachs, a tach for a two stroke does not run off the ignitiion system so they are not dependant on the number of cylinders an engine has. The pulses come from the stator (alternator) which in your case, produces 6 pulses per revolution of the engine.

ooooh ok.. now how exactly do you know how many pulses an stator produces?
