Today on the lake my 98 triton i just bought the tach acted like it was not working then it started working then quit again. This boats seen water less than a dozen times and is pristine in showroom condition however I know with all boat with age things can go wrong I got under the console and every connection seems good any suggestion where to start?

Re: Tach Question

What engine (it does make a difference). Analog tach or digital? All we know is you have a 1998 Triton. Connections that "look" good often are not (new boat or not). A tach needs +12 volts when the key is on. It needs a ground. And it needs the tach signal from the engine. If it has an internal light it needs +12 volts for the light which comes from the light terminal on any other gauge or the NAV/ANC switch. A good test for ground would be to turn the lights on. If the gauges all light up except the tach, then there is likely a ground issue. You need a voltmeter or test light to verify presence of 12 volts. Connections need to be physically checked. That means removing, cleaning and tightening the connections. Intermittent operation generally means poor connections.

Its an Analog Tach
It has an internal light and All Gauges light up except volt meter not sure if its suppose to but do not know why it would be any different then the other gauges. I will get out the volt meter tommorrow and test the voltage also remove the wire clean and reattach and see what happens from there
