tach, switch setting

Could someone tell me what number of "polls" the input shoud be for a tach. on a 1984 johnson75.<br />The tach, has several options. 6,12,(several more for 4cycle) thanks dave

The tachometer operates on a six (6) pulse setup which is the output of the OMC outboard charging systems.<br /><br />Set the tachometer dial on number six (6).

How far would the tach be off if it was set to the "5" position instead of the "6"?

1 position............<br /><br />Really, the rpm difference is not linear but a % difference depending on your actual rpm. Usually appx 20% high.
