I want to that everyone for thier prior suggestions....

I have a 1997 Merc 150, the tach is not working. I already replaced both regulators and the guage is still not working. When I turn the key, the needle does move, but when I start the boat, nothing.....

Is there a way for me to actually test the guage itself???

or Any suggestions??????????????

Re: Tach Trouble

The gauge should zero when it gets +12V and ground (engine not running). If it does this, I would run a jumper from one of the regulators grey wire to the sender post on the Tach, and run the motor. If that fails, run the jumper from the tach sender to one of the yellow stator wires, and run the motor. If that fails and the stator puts out AC voltage, it is likely the tach itself is bad.
