I have an 1800 Hydrosport 1998 115hp V4 johnson. The tachometer stopped working. however, when the key is turned on initially all the signal lights/beeps activate. Do I need a new tach? or can I fix this one. Thank You

On this same boat I need to replace the steering arm. It is badly rusted. What is the best way to do this? would it be best to just replace the midsection? And how many hours in mechanic time would this be? Is 800.00 an average amount to change this?

Re: tachometer not working

Boatmare, Is your Tach one of the "System Check" Tachs with the four idiot light for low oil, overheat, no oil and check engine? If so, they are supposed to light up one at a time when the key is first turned on. The beep should also be 1/2 sec long.

Sounds like you're getting power to the tach since the dummy lights activate on start up. I would test your rectifier like TD said.
