Can anyone verify the pole setting for my tach? I have a 2003 Yamaha 50HP TRLB (two stroke). I think the correct pole setting is 6 on my Yamaha analog tach. I know this has been asked before, but a search didn't turn up my particular motor, and I'm not sure my tach is reading correctly. I figured I'd start with the easy stuff first. Thanks for any help.

Re: tachometer pole setting for 50 TRLB

Thanks for the reply.
The reason I ask is.....my owner's manual says 4500-5500@WOT, but I'm only reading 3000 @WOT. I have a 11 3/8 X 12 yamaha prop, and I'm pushing 16 1/2 aluminum deep vee. My speed is 32 mph (gps) with three adults aboard, which is right where I would expect, but I can't believe the 3000 rpm is correct.
Am I missing something here, or is tach questionable? It "seems" right at idle speeds, but I'm new to this, so any advice would be appreciated.

The tach has to be reading wrong.

Assuming 8% slip that prop would give you 5600 rpm at 32 mph, 1.85 ratio.

I have had a lot of trouble with dirty contacts inside the tach of PRO 50.

I have to spray some electrical cleaner into the tach and work the switches, at least 2x a year.

Thanks again for all the replies. I pulled the tach and it was set to 12P. I set it to 6P. If this essentially doubles my RPM reading at WOT, then all will right with the world. I will run boat again this weekend, and hopefully it will show around 5600. I will repost with results........
