Earlier today, for some reason, I picked up one of my old Tachs that I had laying around. It's a Faria Tach off of a boat with that had a Yamaha 150 on it.
Flipped it over and read these words...
"adjust tach by turning dial toward number that corresponds to your alternator".
(little dial with numbers 1-2-3-4-5-6).
That sort of confused me and I figured the word "cylinders" would have made it easier to think about.
Then I noticed it was pointed toward "5"...and I've never turned this dial.
Just makes me wonder...Is I missing sumpin here?

The codesheet that came with the tach. Yours is a 12 pole alternator system.

Re: Tachometer setting question

So it being set on "5" is correct for a 97 Yamaha V-6?
1 thru 6 on the tach, those instructions on the back of the tach, and a 12 pole alternator.
Are you saying that I'm missing the "key" to be able to figure this out? (a codesheet).
I never had that sheet, it was just a tach I took out of a boat, but, it's just like the one that is in my boat now and it makes me wonder if it's set correctly.
Since I knew no better, I might have just turned the one that is currently in my boat to the "6" mark when installing it.
