I have a 40 hp- 2 troke 03 merc and the tach reads 2000 when idle. When the motor revs to about 4000 the tack gooes backward and pins at 7000. Can anyuone diagnose this problem? is a wire crossed?

Seems like this is the wrong forum for Mercury problems. Reposting in the Mercury forum will likely get better results.
