I have a 40 hp- 2 stroke 03 merc and the tach reads 2000 when idle. When the motor revs to about 4000 the tack gooes backward and pins at 7000. Can anyuone diagnose this problem? Is a wire crossed?
Do you have the tach set on the proper setting for that motor?
What is the SN of your motor, there are exactly 29 different 40hp 2 stroke models in 2003.
