There is a good sounding, early 90's Johnson 90 HP (88 really) on craigslist here. Doesn't say EXACT year, but "Early 90's).
(I haven't contacted the owner yet til I get some background info).
I presently have a '91 'Rude 70 with the power trim.
Can I take the mounts and swap to get the trim on this 90?
I have to figure out the trim buttons in the lower hood section, (wiring swap or?).
Can it be done with out MAJOR head aches??
Joe
I just can't leave well enough alone!!

Depends because your 91 70 hp will have the old style tilt and trim. If the the 90 hp is early 90s it may have the old style T/N/T or if it's a little later model could have the fast track unit. I think 92/93 was when they went to the fast track unit and they do not interchange with each other. You would almost need the motors side by side or get the year of the 90 HP and look it up. I would be seriously surprised if the 90 did not have T/N/T already it was almost mandatory on that motor.

Thanks!
It states in the add "no power tilt".
It also states it a 90 HP, but in the add it says it's a 88 HP, (so I'm ASS-U-ME-ing) that it's a 88 SPL.
I'm not "OH MAN! What a deal, I NEEEEEED that"!
But, I am bored, not a boat project in site and this popped up, and I've been thinking about up grading HP on my boat for MANY years, but just don't seem to pull the trigger!
I'll give this guy a shout, find out the year, go to the parts page and see if pivots or? match up.
Joe
That's always been my problem- "This is running AWESOME, lets see if I can get it better".
STEP AWAY from the boat Joe, and LEAVE it alone!!!

Well, it a mute point at this stage.
I'll have to pass...........
My 2003 Chevy Trailblazer rear upper sway link broke? (ended up rusting!!! away).
When I got under the truck to take it off, I THOUGHT it was a hunk of paint peeling off the frame.......
Turned out a HUGE chunk of my frame fell away!!!!!!!!!
(I've only had the truck 2 years, frame was good when I purchased it).
After banging on the rails with a welding chipping hammer, I'd say 70% of the frame is shot!!
I was afraid to drive it to drain the full tank of gas, before sending it to the bone yard!
Found out this is a COMMON problem with this year truck!!
So, the $$ I had saved to "tinker" with my boat HAD to go to get something to drive!
Joe
I must have been very, very, bad in my past life, and I'm paying for it now!!!

Wow, Joe. Sorry to hear that brother. Truck>Boat, theres no question there.

Really sucks that the frame would rust away like that in a mere 13 years. Thats just ridiculous. Sounds like the older Toyota Tundras. In 10 years those frames would completely dilapidate. I can't imagine the infuriation that would flow through my veins if I bought a brand new work-based vehicle and it crapped out in 10-12 years due to frame issues.

Yep, I figured cost per mile was @ $40!
I bought it off a dealer that I KNEW real well, (played touch football on his lot as a kid, hung @ with his kids)!
He had told me the T.B. was owned by a older guy, garage kept, well maintained.
It did look good, frame was "rusty" (but, all frames @ here are "rusty").
I had researched it, new all the problems, but for some reason, never showed up was the Trail Blazer rust issues until AFTER I had found all the rot.
Seems, 2002, 2003 were known for MASSIVE rust issues!
At least Toyota came up to the plate and recalled them, Chevy, well.........
What curls my toes even more was that I THOUGHT I had a truck for a few years, so I dipped into the well, bought a new bike, over spent re doing the bathroom, and was looking to up grade some stuff on the boat..........
So now I drive a 2003 Dodge 1500 van. An retired Verizon phone van. Really all I could afford!!
My wife won't get in it! My kids call it, "the creeper van", but it runs, AND has a good frame!!
Pisses a honest man off!
