Re: taking cap off a 85 lasar

Welcome to iBoats!
First off there really isn't catch all for removing a cap. Every boat is a little different. Pics of your boat will give us a pretty good idea of what will be required. See my signature for how to post your pics. Or Create a PhotoBucket account to put them on.

Basically you will remove the rubber from the rub rail, Drill out the rivets or remove the screws whichever it is that is holding the cap. Check to see if there is any adhesive holding the hull and the cap together and detach it and then pry the two apart use some two by fours to separate the two and then have some friends help you carry it off. Pretty basic and simple.

I'm just sayin...:D

Hello Popee...

You also might want to start labeling and removing wires that might be tied to the deck at this point.

As far as your rubrail .. pics will help.

Re: taking cap off a 85 lasar

Nice looking boat! Lasers were made just around the corner from my house. The good Yacht Dr. is spot on about labeling things. I'm restoring an old Skeeter. I tore into the console before I got the top off, thinking all that stuff needed to come out, it didn't. Almost all of the wires are run under the deck cap and not attached to the hull (on my Skeeter).
The rubber in the rub rail just pulls out, it probably starts at the transom.
Why are you popping the cap?

You should be able to resize with the picture hosting service you are using. I use photobucket, it's pretty easy. Also if you use the image code next to the picture, you don't have to use thumb nails.

Re: taking cap off a 85 lasar

I've been working on removing my cap for the last four days. It's been a job! Tons of rivets. Seems some on may have replaced the rub rail before. The cap was glassed from the inside at the bow, near the consoles and at the transom. I'm still working on that area. Good luck with your project!

Just got around to getting the cap off the Lazer. Is this doable. Think i'm in over my head. Stringers and transom. Any advice? Where to start what materials?
