taking off lower end unit

I have a 1989 120hp V4 Evinrude. I have all the bolts off the lower end unit and I think I have the right two small clips on the shift rod. It's still holding on by the shift rod.Did I take out the right clips? I have a repair guide but,it doesn't say anything about two clips. help???

Look just below the carbs on the starboard side of the motor and have someone put it into & out of gear. You will see a fork like deal that the top of the shift rod goes into. It is held there by a bolt which needs to be removed. Can be a pain to get to (& replace) - I uses a long extension & universal on a 1/4" drive socket.
