Re: Talk about an engine!!!

yeah but can it out runs my 150hp yamaha on the back of a Skeeter?8) Actually, I have seen it on tv, the show was about a super freighter owned by a Greek or Danish shipping company. After so many hours of operating, they have to do preventive maintenace and that include changing the piston and rod. They can't afford to have that engine break down in the middle of the ocean since any major repair takes many days.

Re: Talk about an engine!!!

I always thought that a 2 stroke engine was inherently inefficient and only produced power at high RPMs, this engine does not conform to that theory?

C'mon, everybody here know that it can be done on any engine by simply enlarging the passageways in the carbs with an handheld drill and by opening the reeds a bit by bending them inward 8)

Sure. One injector, $75,000 plus truck freight.
Piston rings, each, $3500
oil filter, $1700

It takes a really, really long pull cord though, in 3" hemp.

Lots of rules of thumb are changing, and two stroke diesels are a different animal than a two stroke petrol engine. I don't know much about low speed diesels as these are referred to, but when you think about it, you kinda need to fire every chance you get to keep that thing turning at 108 RPM . . . I think you almost need to think of it like a steam engine. Huge torque, looong stroke, sloooooww. Again, different rules . . .
