I have '78 40 hp mercury engine. I just ran it at idle at my house with the flush? hose attachment running. While it was running at idle there was no tattle tail stream. Is this ok since it was not submerged in the water or is my water pump in bad shape. I cant put it in the water yet due to the fact that the title is not processed yet.
Thanks,
Mark

The hose should of forced it to come out, I would try to shove a fine wire up the pee hole. They get blocked up sometimes with bugs and crap.

Did you have a hose hooked up the flush fitting, or a set of muffs on the water intakes? If it was hose on the flush fitting, you may not get sufficient volume out of the tattle tale hole. If you had muffs over the water intakes, you may just need to bump the rpms a little to get a good stream...my 73 Merc 500 doesn't get a strong stream until the rpms go up slightly, even with a new pump/impeller. Nature of the beast I guess.
