Ted Williams 1976 7hp...Air Cooled??

Hi all. I recently was given a Ted Williams 1976 7hp outboard. The sticker on it says air cooled, but it appears to have water intake holes near the prop. Is this motor just air cooled or does it take in water as well? I'm afraid to run it because I see no water exhaust coming out of anywhere and don't want to burn it up if a water pump or impeller is not working. Any advice or knowledge about this motor will be greatly appreciated!

Why is that you can only find what you're looking for after you've posted? Anyway, I found another thread that answered the question. It is air and water cooled. Maybe you can help me with this; where is the water supposed to come out from? Does it only work in gear? I ran the motor in a barrel of water but saw no water coming out anywhere, but I didn't put it in gear.

It may. It has an impeller driven by the driveshaft. If yours is one of those that has a neutral and forward position on the shifter, then it has a clutch at the top of the driveshaft. In neutral, the impeller won't turn, because the driveshaft isn't turning.

Try it again.

A mist of water, mixed with exhaust, should come out of a hole or holes about midway up the back of the leg.

Thanks a million! Yeah, mine has neutral and forward. I was wondering about the two holes midway up the shaft and was guessing that is where the water exhaust should exit. Only air was coming out of there yesterday, but I didn't have it in gear. I'm just ecstatic that I got this old motor to run again. Thanks again for your advice!
