Did you hear the one about the "dumb blonde" (no offense intended) that asked one of her friends what "idk" meant? The friend responded, "I don't know." The blonde replied, "Well that's just great! Nobody else does either!"

FOAD.... one of my personal fav's from my generation. Can be said as F.O.A.D. or pronounced "foewd"... Like e.g. "You received a foad letter in response to your job application."..... getting to be a real useful term to describe customer service these days.

I've conditioned myself to disregard the word "like" that my 17 year old daughter uses for every third word of a sentence. It's when they start talking in text speak that I almost blow a gasket.

example:

You know like we went like to the like movies and like had a like good time.

I guess if phones had a full size keyboard the little rugrats may actually tye out the entire word..IDK tho...lol

My daughter is 20 and back in Cali..We text a lot back n forth..I got her once when she was being ummm testy (for lack of a better word) she gave me a "IDK" smart aleck remark..

I sent her "UBK!"..she atually called and wanted to know WTH UBK was..
Told her YOU BETTER KNOW..

Funny, my wife and I were just talking during dinner how we've become our parents. OMG...WTF's next?

I work for a company that is full of acronyms. They joke about. All the old guys keep speaking in jibberish and acronyms. I think they think they're talking in code and until we learn the lingo they are better than the rest of us (it's their company and world not ours). Maybe our teenagers are like that too. They have developed their own code. We old people aren't supposed to know or be able to follow.

At my job we are required to make all headset communications following the rules that govern the navy. This means we have to use the phonetic alphabet. Well one of the guys thought it was pretty funny to respond to a problem he experienced by calling out Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot. I've got to admit that it took me a minute to catch on but I thought it was pretty funny!

I think its something they learn in school, like spelling. funny thing is I have never seen that class on their report cards. But i know my girls are getting all "A's" in htat class.

By the way guy with the daughter that said "IDK" and you said "UBK".
Oh I laughed for 5 minutes.

We are certainly getting away from actually holding proper conversations any more. I personally detest the acronym talk.

most of them do now!

i must admit, i am still a kid at heart, i do alot of texting. although i dont use alot of the acronyms, i can text like no tomorrow. i have a blackberry pearl, which has an almost full size keyboard (2 letters per button) where my wife has a regular cell phone and doesnt like texting. i can type a full message in about 15 seconds, where it takes her 2-3 min to respond with "OK."

Luckily my kids are still young enough to not have cell phones, but oldest is 13 and we have been talking about getting one for her for emergencies... but we all know how thats going to work out. as soon as she gets it she will start texting all her friends and then will start walking around the house saying IDK and MY BFF SO and SO...

My wife and I got the best of our soon to be 10yo daughter and 8yo son. They kept goofin around thinking they were sneaky with notes and codes and such, so my wife started talking to me in "pig latin". I of course answered her back in pig latin. The kids just stared at us and had absolutely NO clue what was going on. My wife and I kept talking that way (about the kids) for a while. It drove the two of them nuts they couldn't figure it out. After a while they did start catching on to a few words. Especially the ones involving their name, and the word upidste'. The looks on their faces and actions on how they were trying to pick up on what we were saying was priceless.
