Re: Teflon impellers comming soon!

Just wondering. The couple that I was energetic enough to change myself were by design an unbelieveably tight fit in housing. no wonder they burn up so fast when run dry even for short time.I say that because i've actually watched a guy start his outboard at a launch out of the water as his buddy was backing trailer.

Teflon deforms very easily, thus it is used for pipe thread sealant, I can't believe it would work as an impeller. A good impeller should try and mantain it's original shape and not deform easily. You must be talking about a different plastic.

If teflon were resiliant enough to work for an impeller there would be no advantage anyhows. Sand would imbed in the teflon and act as sandpaper. The impeller at running speed does not make contact with the housing...just a Thought

Didn't we have an Ausie talking about burning horse dung for no-see-ums? What's next...such a versatile by-product. :)

G'Day. Here in Australia we smoke horse dung to get high. We also smoke kangaroo dung but you can get a bit jumpy.

Once the impellor is spinning at WOT it is a centrifugal pump! same thing with the thermostat, at WOT the thermostat is always opened, becuase the preasure forces it opened! the ones in the space station, are huge about 5 inches in diamiter and 3 inches tall, the spin at amazingly high speed (7000++) and must me kept cool! I have left a small motor idleing at 200 rpm (don'task I have no idea how it gt that low) out of the water, and the impellor was fine, it ran for 25 minutes, befor it sputtered and breathed its last breath for the secound time (the first time it breathed it last breath was when I added nitro to it!) hopefully it's next last breath, will be something usefull :)
