Hey Guys, I converting my cable system on my 14' boat to a newer Telefex cable system. I have an opportunity to buy a used set-up that is longer that I need. Is the length on the cables adjustable? Thanks

You may be able to route the longer cable a little different to make it work. On one of my boats the cable is snaked up and down along the side of the boat.

Depending upon what the price is, it still might be in your best interest to buy the used system knowing full well that you'll have to replace the cable. (You can get the price of a new cable right here on this web sire.) At the end of the day you still might end up with a system - even with a new cable - that is significantly less than an entirely new system.

There are guidelines for "measuring" and thereby estimating your required cable length. I have some hits and some misses doing this. However, once you have an actual cable in hand and can route it through the boat, then you can determine exactly how much longer (or shorter) it needs to be.

A new complete system can be had for around $150. I'm as cheap as they come, but for that price, I can't see how it would be worth the aggravation to be messing with cables.

I just bought a complete system for $129.99 at the local marina, new cable, with new helm and new steering wheel. The cable was 17'.
It's not worth the hassle to mess around with a used helm, used cable these days to save a couple bucks.
