I would like to replace my pully steering system with a teleflex rack system ( I think like $145) . I was reading up on this product when I read "recommended for boats with power steering". Can I still use this product or is there another teleflex system that I need.

Thanks for any input.

Re: Teleflex Steering Systems

Thanks for the input. I have a 50hp Johnson. I was thinking of using the through the tilt tube option. I am not real sure what the differences are between these steering systems the Teleflex page is not real clear. Guess I better do a little more research.

Thanks again

if ya have the tilt tube thats the way to go ,if not the transom mount is the way to go,they both work well with the 50 thru the tilt tube is cleaner no holes to drill in transom

What is the difference between the rotary system and the rack? The rotary system also says "recommended for use on boats with power steering" can I still use it if I dont have power steering or is there another model that I have to get?

Thanks for the input

Re: Teleflex Steering Systems

The rack is actually a 1 1/2-18'' bar with teeth on it and the steering shaft has a gear on it and as it rolls down the rack it pulls the cable and turns the boat.

The rotary cable has a spiral wrapped around the cable and it goes though a round gear at the helm.

I have had both, go with the rotary, it is alot smoother and isolates more vibration from the engine, I was suprised how much better it is.
