I have a 2000 Volvo 5.0 GXI in my Four Winns Sundowner 235. The engine has 270 hours on it and runs excellent. The engine always starts right up, but sometimes the temp alarm sounds. First the temp gauge goes from cold to full hot and then the high temp alarm sounds and dash light illuminates. This all happens within 5 seconds.
If I turn the engine off and restart it this sequence does not happen. Actually, it sometimes takes a few restarts to clear the problem. Once cleared the engine runs excellent with no alarms. Restarts after the engine warms up never have this issue.
Does this sound like a faulty sensor? Any tips on testing and/or replacing the sensor are appreciated.
