I want to install a TEMP and PRESSURE guage for my 1984 Mercury 35HP engine (#6579602). I see there is a threaded brass plug in the cover that I call the water jacket (spark plug area). Can this be used for either the TEMP or PRESSURE sensor? If it is used for the pressure, where can I install the TEMP sensor, or visa versa?

Thanks

Re: Temp and Pressure Gauge

It's for water pressure, some gauge manufactures make a sender that simple attachs to the block and some blocks have a plug in the top as well as the filler block cover. I have seen others drilled I don't have the guts for that myself

Yep, that's called a pipe plug on your motor... It's a two cylinder correct? You could install either a sensor to read water temp (if it fits) But it will work better for water pressure fitting at that spot...

Metal is very close and give you readings on temps that are hard to make any meaning out of...
