For the next poor soul that finds themselves in the same situation. I removed the cover to install new gasket due to very tiny leak. This let me make sure now part of the old sender/sensor was behind the plate in the water jacket (which it was, so good choice). I carefully hogged out the leftover tube threaded in the hole. I will re-tap/chase the threads before installing the new sender/sensor. i will reinstall cylinder water gasket and cover, then install new sender/sensor. Looks like thread is 1/8 pipe but will not know for sure until new one gets here. Clear as mud … right?!
