Temp Sending Unit

Has anyone retro-fitted their outboard with an aftermarket temp gauge? Where can I safely drill/tap into the side of the intake for thermocouple/sender? Prefer to do this with intake manifold in place.
I have a '75 Evinrude 70HP 3 cylinder

You don't; use the Z bracket that comes with the kit to hold the sender against the cylinder head. Use one of the cylinder head bolts to hold the bracket. See the fourth diagram here: http://www.downloadingfiles.co.uk/teleflexfiles/gauges/Outboards.pdf
