Good morning. I have a 1982 Johnson 140 J140tlcnb. I want to add a temperature gauge for the helm. I have the gauge but am looking for the sender to bolt to the head. I am searching around on the net but I am finding a switch that I think is for the overheating buzzer on the control box. I am looking for an kit possible aftermarket that would replace a head stud? and would send signal to the temperature gauge. Is this possible? Can someone point me to what I need? Thanks in advance.

I used a standard automotive sender - forget what it was from. You can mount the sender on a "Z" bracket pressing the body of the sender to the head. I drilled and tappped 1/8" NPT and mounted the sender in the water cover - and I put one on each head and a DPST switch so I can look at head temp port/stbd. I leave the switch on stbd as that's the higher head and is more likely the one to heat.

Awesome! Thanks for the picture too. Probably go with the z bracket. Last time I tapped something it went bad...

Minor benefit to drill/tap is quicker response. Otherwise a "Z" bracket works fine.
