Temperature sensor location

I read last season about installing a cylinder head temperature gauge to provide added security. I am getting around to the installation and had a question about the location of the sensor. I realize this is not the ideal setup for accurate cylinder head temperature but it's the best I can do right now.
Is this the prefered location for the sensor?
Can someone who has this setup post normal operating temperatures or at what temps I should start getting concerned?
The motor is a 1984 150 black max.
Thanks

Re: Temperature sensor location

I can not say whether the spot you chose is OK or not, however I can suggest that you get a cheap handheld infra-red meter to compare with the readings on the gauge to determine what the "error factor" may be. That is what I did when I installed a temp gauge on my motor. My motor already had the senser/send unit on the port side and all I added was the gauge and wiring. I found that my gauge's readings varied in the 125F to 150F range, depending on RPMs and other factors, and was pretty accurate.
