Re: Terrible new threat to our young folk.

Kids were plenty stupid 30 years ago.

I know that for a fact. ;)

Not all kids today are "stupid" My kids don't drink, smoke or do drugs. The know tens times as much on the perils of "sex", as I did at their age.

They are still plenty dumb on a lot of other things, so I don't have my work cut out for me.

I think the point I am trying to make is that "stupid is as stupid does" I know thats kinda azzy backwards, but the point is we follow our parents lead for the most part, they drink we drink, they smoke we smoke, they were good or bad parents, we follow suit.
but I dont remember seeing my folks blasting compressed air down their throats from a can, who was the moron that thought this jem up?

THis is not anywhere near new news. Kids have been doing this since I was in 6th grade at least. Our DARE program covered it then. That was in 91-92....

Confession time. We used to do some dumb stuff to get high. Taking hits of the nitrous oxide used as propellant in the whipped cream cans. Hyperventilating while squatting down, then standing up fast. Either one would make you dizzy and could make you pass out. Not sure if I would have dusted as a kid, but I hate thinking about some of the dumb things I did. Sometimes I think giving kids access to all the pot they want would be a good idea. At least they wouldn't kill themselves trying for a ten-second buzz.

ever seen a kid, on a motorcycle, leaning over his gas tank, at a stop light? then blast away in the wild blue yonder.

I've never heard of 'huffing'. I have heard of 'whippets', the act of sucking in whipped cream propellant. Never done it, never known of any friends of did it (plenty of people bragged about it.. doubtful if any actually did it). Makes me wonder if smoking cigarettes since 12-ish is what kept me from trying the really nasty stuff. I tried some 'time tested' stuff over the years, but never had any motivation to just grab something from under the sink and suck it up.

I still recall watching a television program a decade ago which highlighted some people who sniffed glue from these gallon cans of some sort of spreadable glue and was speechless. You can't tell me kids or anyone doesn't know this stuff is dangerous. They know perfectly well, they just think like many do when young.. they are invincible. Some are warned with a broken leg or a costly accident, some will only be taught through death. Some should have been taught through death, but somehow survived anyway :)

Do you mean the kid opened the gas cap is purposely took a big whiff?
